Magnolias,
like the title, are a remarkably strong wood.
They can withstand the fierce winds and rains
of Louisiana life. They can adapt to the dry heat
and the suffocating humidity. They have learned
that by being flexible they will bend and move
with the storm rather than break...
The magnolias have gathered in Truvy's beauty
parlour as they have done every Saturday morning
for years. They are in full southern form, gossiping
and giggling. But this Saturday is even more electric
than usual and it's not the hair dryers or curling
irons. Shelby is getting married and the women
have gathered to make themselves beautiful. The
parlour is alive with the noises of spoken hopes,
silent desires, reminders of the past and more
than a few snarly remarks from Ouiser.
Filled with comic, quick witted repartee and some
verbal collisions along the way, this wonderfully
funny tale of female camaraderie is a fantastic
way to spend some time in the summer.
CAUTION: This play will demonstrate gun-shot sound
effects. |
